Batik Trip

For this assignment, we had to make an A3 sized Batik. It was my first time batik-ing. We head over to the Batik making place in KL with our seniors by bus and a tour van. I sat in the tour van together with Kelly, Hannah, Miss Lisa, and two of our seniors Ailsa and Annabel. We arrived earlier than the bus, and as Hannah and I entered the place, we were greeted by some staffs there. A few of them went "Konnichiwa!!!" (meaning hello/good afternoon in Japanese). Moments later another staff came over and told them in Chinese, "They are from Taylors' not Japan". Lol. I have to admit I am a pretty clumsy person. Most of my artworks and assignments will most likely to be smudged, torn, or spilled on by accident during the process. Majority of it can be fixed or I had to redo them. The waxing part of Batik-ing however, can't be corrected once you spilled the wax or poured too much on the cloth *Gasp*. I took the canting (tool used to draw the outline with wax) and the wax came out like a fountain! I panicked and drew really fast. Hardly even lifting up my canting from the cloth. There were some spots, spills and unwanted  lines, but oh well. Imperfection can be pretty too! It just depends on how you see it. I used pastel coloured dyes for my batik. I gave myself a pat on the head when my batik arrived washed and framed a few days later. It was a fun and exciting experience, thanks to Miss Lisa for her time and effort to bring us there. Also, I was happy to work with my group mates Kelly, Hannah, Sean and Dzauqi. Our batiks look cute and fun when they we put together to form a family tree!

Mine is a cat with a cute bowtie!
(Hannah drew the sketch, she's so good in drawing!)

Paper Cutouts!

For this assignment we have to make two paper cutouts. One being symmetrical and the other one not symmetrical. It was much like the paper cutout assignment in the first semester...But! With a twist! We have to expand a square. How? We have to do our paper cutout on a square piece of paper of our choice but with a fixed size. The pieces of paper that were cut out has to be placed back on to the mounting board. It's like expanding the square. The end products were displayed in an exhibition titled "What's your square". My paper cutout theme is "Birds and Feathers"

Here is my paper cutout from the process until the exhibition:

Self Portrait

For this assignment we were asked to make a self portrait out of recycled materials or bits and pieces of nature. We were given approximately 2 hours to complete the assignment.

This is was what I made:

Greeting cards

For our very last POD assignment, we had to make 3 greeting cards of different occasions with the same theme. I decided to go with the theme bunnies and seasons. I went with autumn, winter and spring, celebrating Halloween, Christmas, and Easter.

Here are some pictures of the cards:

Nessie! The giant sea monster float.

For this assignment, we were required to make big colourful floats for the colout theory assignment. My group (me, Marwa, Kelly, Hannah, and Sean) decided to make a float of Loch Ness (a mythical sea monster in Scotland). I took us around 3 weeks excluding the planning to finish this structure. We had a lot of fun making Nessie (yeah, we gave her a name... and a gender). All of us grew very attached to her and was hoping that we don't have to take her apart after the presentation. Luckily, Ms Lisa decided to hang her topsy-turvy in the studio. :)

Here are some pictures of the whole process
(from the making to the floating!) :

And we are done for the night!

One Sunday evening...

With the help of two kind gentlemen (Dzauqi and Jasper)
We decided to test if Nessie floats.

Hmmm... not very balanced.

Awww it's okay Nessie we'll fix you in no time

They decided to take the shortcut

It's night time and Marwa says "lets call it a day"
we were all very tired indeed

Adding Nessie's 'skin'
